How we get there

We have worked with Create Streets, a research institute that advises community groups and councils on planning and developing communities that matches how people want to live, to produce our Design Framework. This Design Framework will guide our team as they embark on the journey of creating a new community.

By this we mean:

  • Places with dynamic and thriving public spaces
  • Places that make healthy and sustainable ways of living the natural choice
  • Places with engaged and proud communities
  • Places that are inclusive for all generations and demographics
  • Places that protect, preserve and enhance nature

These are our Placemaking pillars.

You can learn more about how placemaking sits at the core of how we approach all our projects, at all stages, both within Lands Improvement and associated consultant teams.

STEWARDSHIP & COMMUNITY OWNERSHIP

Plans for the Little Barford Garden Community will include providing a wide range of community assets, including new schools, health facilities, parks, green spaces, footpaths, community buildings and other facilities.

We know how essential it is to plan for the long-term care and sustainability of a new community. That is why we are partnering with the Plunkett UK to give thought at the outset to the stewardship of the green spaces and community facilities at Little Barford Garden Community.

Plunkett UK are a national charity supporting people in rural areas to set up and run successful businesses in community ownership. Plunkett does this to achieve their UK-wide vision for resilient, thriving and inclusive rural communities.

Community-owned businesses are owned and controlled by community members, who each have an equal and democratic say in how the business is run. They can be any type of business ranging from village shops, pubs and cafes, through to woodlands, fisheries and farms.

Plunkett UK has promoted the community ownership model for over 100 years because of its track record for delivering better businesses for people, communities, the economy, and the environment. Plunkett is the only organisation dedicated to supporting rural community-owned businesses UK-wide and currently represents over 750 trading community-owned businesses and a further 300 in the process of setting up.
